Beautiful portrait of a young roman bearing water on her head, wearing the traditional roman costume. She stands proud and has beautiful jewelry. The Roman hills in the back with a large blue sky. Signed lower right J. Dens and dated 1854. Oil on canvas. Original frame. The work has been professionally cleaned and re-varnished. The frame is gilded with the traditional leaf technique.

Size: H 90 cm x W 62 cm – H 120cm x W 88 cm

Belgian School of the mid-19th century.

Lit: Dens Joseph is a painter of genre scenes; he was born in Antwerp in 1808 and died in Deurne in 1883. He was a pupil of F. De Braekeleer and participated in many triennial exhibitions in the country.
