Animated costal view. Large blue-sky meeting with the green waters of the North Sea. Sailing boats in the front but also on the entire horizon. Beautiful work so typical for the artist. Oil on canvas signed lower right. The work has been professionally cleaned and the frame has been regilded.

Littr. Verboeckhoven is considered one of the best 19th century Belgian seascape painters. His romantic style with a detailed and smooth finish made him internation-naly successful. His master was his older brother Eugene, worldwide famous for his high quality animal paintings. Works in the following museums: Antwerp, Yper, Liège, Ostende, Bruges, Courtrai, Brussels, Aix, Cambrai, Cherbourg, La Fère, Leipzig, Aachen, Rotterdam, Newcastle, Lancashire, Scotland & Hermitage.

Seascape painting in the 19th century was heavily influenced by the Romantic movement, which emphasized emotion, nature, and the sublime. Artists sought to capture the dramatic and often turbulent nature of the sea.
