Bust extracted from the fabulous sculpture “La Danse”, large group that embellished the facade of Charles Garnier’s Opera in Paris. This bust depicts the mean character, The Genius of the Dance. Fabulous expression and movement. Bronze with double gilded sheen. “Vert Maurin” marble base. Signed on the back.

Litre.  Carpeaux is considered one of the greatest 19th century French sculptors. His style is characterized by movement and an excellent rendering of the instant.  This bust is taken from the artist’s masterpiece “La Danse”, finished in 1869. This massive group (H 4m20) composed by 8 dancing figures around the “Genius” is now exhibited in the Orsay museum. Other works by Carpeaux in the following museums: Louvre, Valencienne, Compiègne, Nice, Douai, Van Gogh, Winterhour, LA County, Boston & Washington DC and the MET in NYC who has dedicated an exhibition to the master in 2014.
