Lit: George Andries Roth is a Dutsch painter, landscaper depicting extensive river valleys, idyllic forest views and cityscapes. His style is bright, colorful, and idyllic. He travelled through Germany in 1835-1836 along the Rhine and Ruhr, exploring the region’s rocks, high mountains, and waterfalls. He travelled in the footsteps of his teacher George Pieter Westenberg (1791-1873) and Barend Cornelis Koekkoek. Roth painted tiny figures within imposing natural environments to contrast men’s trivialness to the greatness of creation. Roth mainly worked and lived in Amsterdam, where he was a member of the Royal Academy since 1839. His pupils were Elias Pieter van Bommel, Cornelis Petrus ‘t Hoen and Pieter Lodewijk Francisco Kluyver.

Works in  the Rijksmuseum and the Gemeentemuseum in Arnhe.
