Beautiful and voluptuous still life of flowers and fruit. Colorful composition on a marble table with velvet curtains in the back unveiling a chromatic landscape. Marble column. Full of details such as flies and waterdrops on the fresh flowers and the fruit. Oil on canvas signed and dated 1861. Original frame. The canvas has been professionally cleaned.

Lit: Painter of still lifes, flowers and fruit, genre scenes, landscapes, and hunting scenes. Began painting on porcelain. Studied at the Brussels Academy (1934-37). Along with his friend L. Dubois, one of the initiators of Belgian realism. Regular participant in the Triennial Salons in Antwerp, Brussels, and Ghent. Member of the Academy of the Royal Academy of Belgium. Works in the Louvain museum and the Charlier museums in Brussels.
