Green “message” cup and saucer, attrib to Thüringen

Nice, flared cup on piedouche. Handle in the shape of a snake. The outside is covered in a nice dark green and gold. It gets interesting inside the cup, with a painted angel holding a written message saying in German: “dies schälchen weiht dir o beste, dein freund zum frolichsten festen” translating “This little bowl is dedicated to you, my dearest, your friend, for the most joyful celebrations”. Nice condition. No marks but the cup is a model produced in KPM Berlin and Thüringen porcelain.

This is again a wonderful example of the “Friendship cups” or “message cups” that were refined presents gifted at important celebrations in one’s life.
