Impressive pair of planters with painted porcelain plates mounted on original gilt bronze. Fine quality of casting and chasing on the bronze. The porcelain plaques are painted with floral reserves surrounded by celestial blue ground enhanced with gold in the Sèvres style. Freitels surmounting the corners, masks of women in the center of each bow.

Lit: Both functional and highly decorative, gilt-bronze mounts and bronzes d’ameublement such as wall-lights, firedogs, mounted porcelain and clocks, played a very important role in the French interior from the late seventeenth until the nineteenth century. Closely following the latest stylistic changes, well-known artists and sculptors were responsible for their design. A rigid guild system maintained high standards of craftsmanship and regulated the process of gilt-bronze manufactory.
