Roman warrior holding up a shield with the inscription “Pour la plus belle”, translating for the most beautiful one. Next to him, an altar sign of awareness. The entire clock is in gilt bronze. Period threaded movement.

French school of the Charles X period.

This clock illustrates the successful trend during the first part of the 19h century, when Roman history and heroes were glorified in monument-style compositions.
