Large painting with an elder gentleman making the presentation between two younger high society man and woman. The scene takes place in a beautiful and warm interior. The shy young lady wears a beautiful white gown and stopped her sewing to great the handsome man. Signed lower left. Oil on canvas with original frame. The work has been professionally cleaned and revarnished, the frame has been regilded.

Lit : Émile Pierre de La Montagne (Antwerpen, 1873 – 1956) was a Belgian painter. He was known for his genre scenes, flowers and murals. He studied at the Academy of Antwerp, then specialized in monumental art at the Academy of Brussels, before studying portraiture in Paris. During the First World War, he stayed in England and received numerous commissions for portraits. As a decorator, he painted the murals in Antwerp City Hall. Based on correspondence from a friend of de La Montagne, it is claimed that during his time in England, Winston Churchill was an apprentice to him.
