Lit: Alfred Verwee is a realistic landscape and animal painter. Pupil of his father Louis-Pierre, brother of the genre painter Louis Charles Verwee, he also has Eugène Verboeckhoven as a teacher. During a stay in Paris, he learns about the Barbizon school which influences his work ( Constant Troyon). Trips to London and the Netherlands, he is a founding member of the “Société libre des Beaux-Arts” (1868). From 1880, here presents the polders area near Knokke and becomes the leader of this colony of painters.
