Large and beautiful figural pendulum clock in bronze and white marble. Two antique muses, Erato and Calliope, goddesses of Lyric and Epic poetry, are standing graciously together holding hands. Erato is presented with her lyre, Calliope has a laurel crown and books. White marble base with gilt bronze pearl decoration. Enamel dial.

Movement signed Denière in Paris.
Liter.: Denière is a very important bronze maker in Paris, active from 1804 till 1890. They presented high quality bronzes at the Universal expositions and had orders in 1852 and 1854 for the French Emperor ( Chateau des Tuileries ). A pendulum clock is part of the collection of the White House in Washington DC.
