Beautiful, animated scene in the Parisian gardens of “Les Tuileries”, near the Louvre. A gallant couple is walking by a group of sitting people and the flower sellers near a pond. Oil on panel, signed lower right.

French School of the late 19th century.

Lit: Henri Victor Lesur, born in Roubaix in 1863, was a French painter specializing in portraits, genre scenes in costume, and landscapes. Student at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts of Paris under François Flameng, (artist who also depicted scenes influenced by the masters of the eighteenth century), he executes views of Paris with finesse. Lesur exhibits at the Salon from 1885 until his death in 1900. The majority of his Salon entries are portraits. Lesur also took part in both the 1889 and 1900 Exposition Universelle, receiving bronze medals at both.
