Superb animated countryside scene depicting a young shepherd couple and their herd, consisting of a cow and goats, walking along a dirt track. The artist illuminates the scene from behind, creating interesting light effects and bringing the painting to life! The painting technique leans towards impressionism, with a focus on texture, which is characteristic of the artist. Oil on panel, signed and dated 1902. Period frame. On the reverse, sales and framer’s label. Cleaned and re-varnished by a professional. Frame re-gilded with gold leaf.

Litér: Plumot was an interior and animal painter, specialising in lively landscapes with sheep and goats. He painted mainly in the Campine region. He exhibited nationally (Ghent, Brussels, Antwerp) and internationally (Philadelphia, Melbourne, Edinburgh, London, New Orleans). Works in the museums of Antwerp, Kortrijk, Adelaide (Australia), Warrington (United Kingdom) and New Orleans (United States).
