Extraordinary bronze titled “Quand Même!” (translates “Still!”), Model of the great sculptor Antonin Mercié, executed in 1882. “Quand Même!” is a vibrant tribute to the Alsatian resistance during the siege, and whose name resumes the motto of the patriots in 1880: , Despite everything, we still have to resist … ”

Originally, the monument was to be a tribute to Thiers (by whom the conservation of the Territory of Belfort in Alsace at the time was possible).

The sculptor Antonin Mercié, privileging the popular struggle, realized a statue representing an Alsatian defying the enemy, rifle in hand and supporting a defeated soldier.
