Beautiful large marble sculpture of flower seller dressed in the Greek Antique style. She leans forward with a hand in front of her. She is holding a basket with flowers and looks intensely in front of her. Signed and dated on the base by the French artist Etienne Dumaige, 1867. Marbles by him are very rare on the antiques market.

Size: H 135 cm – W 50 cm – D 55 cm

French school of the second half of the 19th century.

She sits on a black bespoke modern base on wheels. Size: H 55 cm x W 60cm x D 75 cm.
So total height on base is 190 cm.
Lit: Henry Etienne Dumaige (1830- 1888) studied sculpture under Féuchère and Dumont. He exhibited his sculptures depicting groups, statues, and busts at the Salon from 1863-1886. He is most known for his statuettes of dancers and historical French figures. He sculpted a large number of busts, groups and statuettes in marble, plaster and bronze. In 1864 he exhibited a group in bronze entitled ” L’âge d’or”, “Hero”, in 1864, “Retour des champs” in 1866, a marble bust of Moliere in 1872, a statuette entitled Francois Rabelais in terra-cotta in 1873, a statue in marble for the city hall in Tours in 1880, “Camille Desmoulins” in plaster 1882, and “Patrie”, a bronze in 1886. Different works were cast in bronze, in particular, dancers, as well as works entitled, “Salome”, and “Esmeralda”, and also a grenadier of 1792 entitled “Après les combat”, a reduction of Camille Desmoulins.
